Optical Weaving: Sketchbook assignment.  Begin with a frame, and then follow prompts to create the illusion of weaving on paper.  
Tabby weaving-under one over one.
Warp: Vertical strings
Weft: horizontal strings
Selvage:  The edges of a weaving
Value: the lightness or darkness

Warp and weft are the two basic components used in weaving to turn thread or yarn into fabric. The lengthwise or vertical warp yarns are held stationary in tension on a frame or loom while the transverse weft is drawn through and inserted over and under the warp. A single thread of the weft crossing the warp is called a pick.  An instrument used to carry the yarn through the weft is a shuttle.

Week 2

Day 1: Review classroom values.
Review weaving vocab and optical weaving assignment.  What is functional art vs. decorative art? Weaving helps kids with fine motor skills, patterning, hand-eye coordination, and listening skills.
